Self-Assessment Essay

Through this paper, I am going to evaluate my own progress in this writing course by analyzing some projects, writing techniques and argument composed during the semester.

One of the things I learned during the semester was to pay attention to my audience. I understand that before writing a paper, you need to make sure to define a group of people for which this paper is addressed. For that reason, in the presentation of my infographic, I was really aware of choosing a particular audience before develop my infographic. I choose an adult audience from ages between 18 and 70 since they will be able to understand better the topic expose in mu infographic.

Because this semester was imparted during the COVID 19 season, we did not really work in group. The only activity we did in group were the discussion boards. During this activity, we were able to offer our opinion to our partners and to get to know each other more.  In figure 1, you can see how during the icebreaker discussion board the students show some aspects of themselves.

One of the assignments that was based on analysis that I enjoyed doing during the semester was the rhetorical analysis of lab report. Since my major is Chemical engineering, I wrote a lot of lab reports. Therefore, I liked to analyze and compare two lab reports execute for more advanced people and thus, see my own mistakes. I also did some multimodal composition, as the technical Description of a broom and the infographic about Uranium. To compose these papers, I used different modality to transmit the purpose of the paper, such as images. I also articulate a stance in my infographic analysis. I find this organizational pattern an excellent option to explain how some irresponsible actions can really impact our world, in this case our waters and therefore, our own health. (Diana Mieses, 2022). These words show a stance which explained the reason I chose the organizational pattern used in my infographic.

To carry out most of my work I search for materials in different sources: the internet and the Hostos Community College library, but I always end up selecting the articles for the internet using searchers such as google.
